Mammalian gap-43 composition and its use

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition for promoting therapy in nervous tissue damaged by infarction or hypoxia, comprising a recombinant mammalian GAP-43 containing a novel membrane-targetting peptide domain capable of directing GAP-43 to the cellular membrane. CONSTITUTION: The objective composition comprises a recombinant mammalian GAP-43 or its functional derivative. The composition is obtained from newly born rat brain RNA in conventional manner. A cDNA encoding for a mammalian GAP-43 is inserted into a vector, and prokaryotic or eukaryotic host cells are transformed with such expression vector containing the cDNA.
