Ion manipulation room with bespoke potential profiles

The invention relates to construction, electrical wiring and use extended RF ion cells with radial and axial potential profiles for manipulating ions including their management, storage and reactive change. The invention introduces an ion cell whose elongated interior is sheathed in a pattern of many mutually isolated individual electrodes whose insulating columns but mostly not parallel to the axis, so that at least in parts rejuvenate the individual electrodes in the longitudinal direction or broaden and so an electrical action show the axis potential, whose strength varies in each case along the longitudinal axis. The individual electrodes are electrically supplied with various mixtures of DC and RF voltages, whereby customized axial profiles of DC or pseudo potentials can be generated in addition to a radial retaining force. The embodiments relate to, among other cells to collision-induced fragmentation with the possibility for fast axial ejection of productions cell for reactions between positive and negative ions, cells for the formation of a very fine ion beam, eject the ions with bunching effect, cells for the measurement of ion mobilities and cells for measuring axial vibration in a harmonious field for Fourier Transform mass spectrometer.
