Hybrid Floating Structures Case Study: Marisco’s Floating Dry Dock

2021
Over 70% area of the world is ocean, which represents a huge opportunity for floating structure. Existing floating structures were made mostly out of steel or timber while reinforced concrete was preferred for constructing structures on land. Along with high strength concrete- technology innovation, reinforced concrete with mild steel and grouted prestressing steel tendons was also used in the construction of floating structures; typically with honeycombed interior consisting of precast silos interconnected with fin walls in both directions sandwiched between the top deck and the bottom slab. This structural system is highly redundant, robust and lightweight.
