Original Article COMPLEXES OF COPER (II) WITH SOME HYDRAZONES DERIVED FROM NICOTINIC AND ISONICOTINIC ACID HYDRAZIDES

2013
N-(propan-2-ylidene) nicotinohydrazide (PNH), N-(propan-2-ylidene) isonicotinohydrazide (PINH), N-benzylidene-nicotinohydrazide (BNH), benzylideneisonicotinohydrazide (BINH), N-((furan-2-yl) methylene) nicotinohydrazide (FNH), N-((furan-2-yl) methylene) isonicotinohydrazide (FINH), N-(2-hydroxybenzylidene) nicotinohydrazide (HNH), and N-(2-hydroxybenzylidene) isonicotinohydrazide (HINH), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, melting point, and infrared spectral studies. Their complexes with CuSO4 were also synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, melting point, conductance, infrared, electronic and magnetic susceptibility studies. Infrared data suggest that the ligands act as neutral bidentate donors ligating through the carbonyl O and the azomethine N. The sulphate anion is in the inner coordination sphere in some of the complexes. Magnetic and spectral data indicate a distorted octahedral geometry for the copper complexes. The antimicrobial activity of the compounds are discussed.
