Clinical assessment of percutaneous transluminal cutting balloon angioplasty in forty four patients with coronary artery disease

2001
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and indication of Percutaneous Transluminal Cutting Balloon Angioplasty (PTCBA) in coronary artery disease Methods 44 patients with coronary artery disease (with 52 lesions) were undergone PTCBA The clinical characteristics, lesion feature, success rate, procedure related factors, severe complications and the results of following up were investigated respectively Results The proportion of patients with angina is about 81 8%(36/44) For the apply of PTCBA technique, the predilation rate before stenting is 25%(13/52), in stent restenosis therapy rate is 46 1%(24/52) The majority types of lesions are B1 and B2 There were four cases (four lesions) with failed PTCBA manipulation, who received conventional balloon predilation and stenting The whole success rate was 100%, the PTCBA success rate was 90 1%(4/44), no in hospital mortality, acute myocardial infarction and emergency CABG After following up of the mean 5 3±3 5 months, the rate of following up was 95% (38/40), without severe cardiac events, clinical recurrent angina rate was 21 1% (8/38) The reexamining coronary angiography rate was 50 5% (21/38), the restenosis rate of coronary angiography was 23 8% (5/21) Conclusion The selective application of PTCBA instead of conventional balloon technique in coronary interventional therapy is safe and effective, especially it provides a new and effective management for coronary artery disease in the in stent restenosis patients
