Conversion courses: the views of British enrolled nurses.

Abstract This article describes an empirical study of enrolled nurses working in the field of mental handicap. Their opinions regarding the conversion of enrolled nurses to registered nurses are described. The nature, utility and implications of conversion courses are discussed in the light of the study's findings.
