The present invention provides a method for updating a cell and a terminal, relates to technical field of mobile communications. Wherein said method comprises: a terminal to the RLC layer detects an unrecoverable error occurs; terminal determines whether the error is generated by the PS service; when the error is generated by the PS service, the terminal determines whether there is currently CS service; in the presence of CS service, the terminal determines whether the error will affect the CS service; when the error does not affect the CS service, the terminal waits for the end of the CS service, and transmitting a cell update request after the end of the CS service to the network side. The invention can avoid the RLC layer PS business unrecoverable error occurs and initiate cell update adverse impact on business caused by CS, CS and PS to improve the user experience concurrent operations on CS business.
