Abstract Analytical methods used to describe fermentation processes in laboratory experiments have been automated and have been transferred to large scale bioreactors. Therefore information from laboratory experiments can be made available in process control. More substrates and products can be measu red and open new opportunities to describe large-scale processes and improve process control and performance.
