Megaproyectos y producción de espacios globales

2020
Megaprojects are a spatio-temporal process of contemporary capitalism in order to reproduce transnational capital. This paper shows how megaprojects are forms of social productions of space that have occupied, transformed and stripped land and territories. On this framework, this paper is organized in three sections and some conclusions. The first part explains what this social production of space is and its importance in understanding the forms that megaprojects acquire. The second part is an examination of how megaprojects are forms, practices and representations of the space of current capitalism, and how they are naturalized as «beneficial» to the population. The third one deals with global spaces, and specific zones of intense accumulation, in which megaprojects are localized. This analysis attempts to contribute to the debates on megaprojects, and criticizes the discourses that seek to show them as the great works of economic and social improvement and tactical benefit for the peoples.
