Analysis of Scanning Error of Array Antenna by FSS Radome

2019
Array antenna scanning angle changes caused by FSS radome is studied in this paper. An array antenna consisting of 25 dipole and a FSS radome has good filtering properties and impedance bandwidth at large incident angles. On this basis, system consisting of a FSS radome and an array antenna is simulated. The size of FSS radome and its distance from array antenna are separately optimized to ensure that FSS radome has minimal impact on the radiation characteristics of array antenna. Simulation results show that when the scanning angle reaches 40°, optimized FSS radome will change the scanning angle of array antenna by about 0.25°. The analyzed and optimized FSS radome does not adversely affect radiation performance of array antenna. This design method can be used to add a radome to a larger size array antenna.
