Stress Corrosion Cracking of Sensitized Type 304 Stainless Steel in Thiocyanate Solutions

1990
Abstract The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of sensitized type 304 (UNS S30400) stainless steel (SS) in thiocyanate solutions was studied, and the results were compared with those obtained with thiosulfate and tetrathionate solutions. Sensitized type 304 SS is highly susceptible to intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) in thiocyanate solutions, but its aggressiveness is less than that for the other sulfur-containing anions studied.
