PREPARATION OF AMORPHOUS Ni-Zr ALLOY BY MECHANICAL ALLOYING

Amorphous Ni_(70)Zr_(30) alloy was synthesized by mechanical alloying the corre-sponding elemental powders in a Spex 8000 Mixer/Mill.The microstructure and phases of thepowders at various milling times were examined,as well as microhardness and particle size.It isdemonstrated that the lamellar structure has been disappeared after milling for 24 h,the pow-ders have been become completely amorphous,characterized by broad peak developing around2θ=43°in X-ray diffraction spectra.
