MUMPS Programming Documentation Standards.

1986
Abstract : The Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi-Programming System (MUMPS) was developed at the Laboratory of Computer Science at Massachusetts General Hospital. MUMPS is a high-level language which also functions as an operating system and data base manager. A new documentation standard has been developed for MUMPS to accommodate the unique features and structure of the language. One of the most important characteristics of MUMPS is its flexibility. Complex information systems written in MUMPS can be modified much more quickly and easily than similar systems written in COBOL or FORTRAN. Therefore, the documentation of MUMPS systems must facilitate the incorporation of program modifications and updates. The purpose of this manual is to describe a method for documenting systems developed in MUMPS. However, it is believed that this approach is general and would be useful for dynamic system. regardless of the specific language used. This manual applies Yourdon and Constantine's transaction analysis design and structure techniques to document a MUMPS system.
