Hidrocefalia de presión normal o síndrome de Hakim y Adams: reporte de dos casos

2019
Introduction: The term normal pressure hydrocephalus is used to describe the syndrome characterized by an increase in the size of the ventricles and a normal pressure of cerebrospinal fluid. There are limited epidemiological data, and even though it may be diagnosed at any age, hydrocephalus usually occurs between the sixth and seventh decades of life. Diagnostic criteria include more than one classic symptom of the clinical triad, imaging findings and measurement of cerebrospinal fluid pressure. Although there are multiple management strategies, but surgery is the definitive alternative; the ventriculo-peritoneal shunt is effective when the cerebrospinal fluid is withdrawn from the cavity. Description of cases: We present two clinical cases of patients who presented normal pressure hydrocephalus and prolonged evolution. In addition, it describes the presence of the clinical triad and the therapeutic utility of the ventriculo-peritoneal shunt in both cases.
