Immersive Visualization forGenomeExploration andAnalysis

2006
Genomicand post-genomic dataprocessing comprising genomesequencing, annotation andlarge scale genometechnology produce increasing amounts of datawhichneedtobeanalyzed. Visualization isa powerful analytical technique that usestheability ofthe humanbrain toprocess complex data. Biological data werealready explored byvirtual-reality. Whereas the proteins arethesubject ofmanyworksofmodeling and visualization, still verylittle workhasbeendoneonthe DNA.3D graphical representation ofDNA primary sequencesallowscomplexity reduction while transforming 3Dspatial representation into anumerical matrix tofacilitate comparative studies ofDNA.Two biological application wereaddressed inthis paperthat showtheuseofimmersive visualization tohelp theusers atgenomicanalysis phases. Thefirst application is particularly concerned withthevisualization ofgenes sharing similar expression factors within groups. The second oneisfocused on3Dshapemodeling ofexonintron elements within genes organization.
