Angiogenesis and Vascular Malformations

2017
The role of angiogenesis in the pathogenesis and progression of vascular malformations is not fully understood. It is clear that vascular malformations develop because of defective angiogenesis or vasculogenesis caused by somatic or germline mutations in the proteins that regulate this process. Once formed, both normal angiogenesis involved in growth and reproduction, and pathological angiogenesis, often a reaction to intervention or injury, have roles in progression and symptomatology.
