The impact of biotechnology on Australian industry

This paper examines the impact of the new biotechnologies in Australian industry. The Australian industry has been characterised by the growth in small entrepreneurial biotechnology firms. To access the competitiveness of these biotechnologies firms, the paper explores-• the science/technology relationship;• the financial climate;• industry constraint in the area in which the biotechnology firm competes.Strategies undertaken by the biotechnology firms to maximize competitive advantage are discussed. The sources of information have included annual reports, newspaper articles and publications describing biotechnology from an international perspective.
