Auswirkungen eines geführten perioperativen Behandlungskonzeptes bei ambulant zu operierenden Kindern auf die prä- und postoperative Befindlichkeit

2021
In this retrospective analysis, parents of a total of 100 children between 1 and 12 years old were contacted between October 2015 and September 2016. All children underwent outpatient surgery at the department of general, visceral, and pediatric surgery at the University Hospital of Goettingen during this period. The 100 patients were divided into 2 collectives, each including 50 children. The data of the first fifty patients (replaced by their parents) were acquired before the change of the treatment concept, the other fifty patients were interviewed after the introduction of the new concept. Parents were contacted both in writing and by telephone; in addition, patient records were reviewed, specifically anesthesia and admission records and operative reports. The introduction of the new treatment concept consisted of a new preoperative information sheet as well as a flyer that was handed out after the operation. The documents contained both organizational and medical instructions for the parents, such as a scheduled recommendation regarding analgesic administration, times of the fasting period and visualized directions to the central operation area. The aim of the treatment concept was to increase the parents' satisfaction and subjective feeling of security. Furthermore the new concept was supposed ensure a safe and adequate administration of analgesics, to process organizational information and to make the structure of the operation day more transparent. The introduction of the new treatment concept resulted in a significant increase in satisfaction with the structure of the surgery day, general parental satisfaction with perioperative management, and higher compliance regarding postoperative analgesic administration in the outpatient setting.
