Study on the Flame-retardancy of Surface Modified Nano-Al(OH)_3 and Its Composite in PP

Nano aluminum hydroxide (ATH) surface modified by different modifiers and ATH/red phosphorus composites were used for modifying PP as a flame retardant.The effects of the kind and mass of modifiers,the ratio of components on the flame-retardant and mechanical properties was studied.The results showed that the flame-retardant and mechanical properties of ATH/PP can be improved by surface modification;silane is better surface modifier than titanate and sodium oleate;the best mass ratio of silane is 2% of ATH's mass in PP.When the ratio of PP/ATH is 100/50,modification can increase the oxygen index value 14% to 30.3%;the range of burning behavior vertical can reach FV-1 and the mechanical properties increases greatly.Adding some red phosphorus can be good at flame retardancy by cooperating with ATH;when the mass ratio of PP/ATH/red phosphorus is 100/45/5,the effect of flame retardancy is better than using ATH alone.
