Psychiatry in the Casualty Department

1972
Five hundred and thirty-eight patients attending the casualty department at Guy's Hospital with psychiatric disorders are reviewed over one year. These are compared with similar findings in 1960 and attention is drawn to the high incidence of schizophrenia and suicidal attempts. The necessity for a psychiatrist to be attached to the casualty departments so that psychiatric advice is easily obtainable, is discussed.
