A Transaction Model to Support Disconnected Operation in a Mobile Computing Environment

A mobile computing environment consists of stationary and mobile workstations (hosts). Its nature (frequent connections/disconnections, mobility and possible non-availability of mobile workstations) has forced the research community to revisit many areas of database management. In this paper we present a multi-layered approach to handle replicated data. The abstract model describes different layers for handling transactions and the layers at which the replication will be handled.
