Comparative study to evaluate ERIs of optical fiber cladding modes using different geometries
2015
The paper reflects the analysis of effective refractive indices (ERIs) of optical fiber's core and cladding modes on the basis of two different geometries narrating its quantitative structure. The ERI is one of the basic and most significant parameters while studying characteristics of optical fiber, useful in optical communication applications. But accuracy up to few decimal places remains the major concern when calculating parameters of optical fiber before going to fabrication. SMF-28 optical fiber's specifications are used here to evaluate ERIs of core and cladding modes of optical fiber, using two layer and three layer geometries. Weakly guided approximation is used in methods to draw characteristic equation for analysis. Finally a comparison is made which clears the whole scenario of best suited model to evaluate ERI values.
