Experimental and Theoretical Analysis Of a Solar Desalination System Improved by Thermoelectric Cooler And Applying Sun Tracking System

2018
ABSTRACTSolar desalination systems are becoming more attractive for production of sustainable distilled water. Researchers are trying to improve the efficiency of such systems. In this work, an improved solar desalination system is developed that utilizes a solar tracking system and thermoelectric cooler to produce distilled water from sea water. The solar system consists of a solar collector dish to collect and reflect the solar energy to a still tank that contains the sea water. The temperature is increased inside the still tank causing the water to evaporate. By using a thermoelectric cooler on the top surface of the still tank, the condensation rate of water vapors is increased. To improve the efficiency of the solar desalination system, the dish collector is equipped with a sun tracking system. Furthermore, a photovoltaic (PV) solar panel is used to feed electricity to a sea water pump and the thermoelectric cooler. Results showed increase in temperature of the still tank by 120°C when a sun tracking...
