Stiff Solvers and Model Reduction in Flexible Multibody Systems

Flexible multibody systems arise in the simulation of vehicles, robots, air- and spacecrafts. Based on the example of a rotating elastic beam, we examine the numerical stiffness problem that characterizes these systems and discuss the alternative application of reduced models.
