The preparation and photoluminescence properties of Y2−xEux(MoO4)3 nanophosphors and a transparent Y1.4Eu0.6(MoO4)3 suspension

2020
Abstract A new method was examined to synthesize Y2-xEux(MoO4)3 nanophosphors by reacting Y-oleate (with Eu-oleate) and tetraoctylammonium (TOA)–MoO4 complexes via a solvothermal reaction. The Y-oleate (with Eu-oleate) and TOA–MoO4 complexes were prepared using a simple phase-transfer method. The brightest emission was obtained from the Y1.4Eu0.6(MoO4)3 nanophosphor prepared at 100 °C. The strongest emission peak was observed at 617 nm and was attributed to the 5D0 → 7F2 transition of the Eu3+ activator ion in the Y2(MoO4)3 host. Because sodium oleate was used as a surfactant, the Y1.4Eu0.6(MoO4)3 nanophosphor was hydrophobic. A stable, scattering-free suspension of the Y1.4Eu0.6(MoO4)3 nanophosphor in toluene was prepared and found to be suitable for use in the fabrication of transparent displays.
