Linear angstrom model applied to weather data collected for the city of Sharjah

2018
The current study investigates the correlation of solar irradiance and sunlit hours for Sharjah city, United Arab Emirates. The most straightforward tool to use is the linear Angstrom model (AM) that can be populated with experimental measurements to evaluate the model parameters a and b (y-intercept and slope, respectively). Other weather data, such as relative humidity and wind speed will also be collected to explain the deviation from straight-line behavior. These two variables are especially important as they determine the quality of incident irradiation, since high values of relative humidity or wind speed is an indication of airborne dust or water vapor molecules, respectively. The values obtained for the particular Sharjah model are a = 0.17 and b = 0.54 which are limited for summer and fall 2017, but with long-term data logging, a more comprehensive model can be developed and used to predict weather patterns.
