Application of wire chambers for triggering purposes

Abstract The application of triggering systems in high energy physics experiments and the kind of criteria used in triggering systems with wire chambers are briefly discussed. A few examples of applications are given, in particular: multiplicity, direction, coplanarity, small-angle scattering, and momentum triggers. Triggering systems of dimuon and charmed particle production experiments performed at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron are described.
