Ether Lipids as Potential Boron Carriers for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy: Synthesis of rac-1-(9-o-Carboranyl)nonyl-2-Methyl-Glycero-3-Phosphocholine (B-Et-11-OMe)

1993
Prerequisite for the fascinating concept of boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is the availability of boron compounds which accumulate selectively and with a high ratio tumor/healthy tissue. A number of concepts towards the synthesis of such nontoxic boron compounds are followed at present in this context. They include boron loaded antibodies1, thioureas2, porphyrins3, and low density lipoproteins4.
