Intraesophageal Twenty-Four-Hour pH-metry: An Indispensable Tool for the Diagnosis of Reflux Disorders

1988
Because of the multifactorial pathogenesis of reflux disease, there are also many approaches to its diagnosis. The primary procedure for diagnosis of reflux disease remains endoscopy and all other diagnostic procedures should be evaluated with respect to the specificity and sensitivity of endoscopy. Based on our data we think that pH-metry may be the method which matches the reliability of endoscopy the closest. In addition, pH-metry offers further information about the patient’s individual reflux profile, which even endoscopy does not provide.
