Dengue encephalitis: Suggestion for case definition

It is a fact, that there is no definite criterion for dengue encephalitis. Initially, dengue encephalopathy should be discarded for a correct diagnosis of encephalitis. Cerebral anoxia, edema and/or toxicity secondary to liver failure and electrolyte dysfunction are determinants of dengue encephalopathy and should be excluded [1]. In response to Dr. Varatharaj, the need of a validation and adoption of a dengue encephalitis case definition is fundamental. Especially for clinicians who are unfamiliar with this disease. We suggest that for the definition of dengue encephalitis some points should be followed:
