Typical macroscopic defects in ZnSe crystals grown from the melt

1991
Abstract ZnSe crystals grown from the melt have been characterized. It has been found that there are many heavy twins and characteristic voids in the crystals. The twins curve in the crystals. It has been found that the voids were inclusions of nitrogen gas incorporated from the atmosphere in the growth chamber. The voids are elongated in the growth direction. The length of the observed voids can reach sizes of 0.5 mm.
