Though costs related to the purchase and consumption of atypical antipsychotics are increasing, no changes were registered in the amount of use of correctors of extrapyramidal side effects after neuroleptic therapy and the incidence of type 2 diabetes is rising. This could be explained by inadequate combination therapy with typical and atypical antipsychotic drugs as a result of misleading advertising and stereotypical prescribing of psychotropic drugs. Safe and effective introduction of new medicines is possible only against the background of their adequate use based on unbiased information.
