Modified frequency division algorithm for motion compensation of synthetic aperture radar

2021
For high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system, the acquired echoes are easily contaminated by the platform’s deviations that are referred to as motion errors. The motion errors behave the properties of range- and aperture-variance and degrades the final image severely, which makes motion compensation become an essential procedure. In this paper, a modified frequency division algorithm (MFDA) has been developed based on the azimuth-frequency mapping and time-scaling transform. The proposed method takes into account both the range- and aperture-variant characteristics of residual motion errors and could completely compensate the along-track and cross-track motion errors. Moreover, this fashion could be integrated into the traditional image formation algorithms with no changes. Finally, we would present numerical experimental results charactering the performance of the proposed MFDA.
