A Lean-based Analysis Framework Oriented Towards the Upstream Supply Chain for the Luxury Industry

For a long while the luxury industry has been restricted to a specific type of operation - that of an outstanding manufacturer for whom work is mainly manual. The industry’s attention to perfection and the image of “luxuriousness” has kept operating methods beyond any industrial logic. However, with globalisation, the luxury industry has had to develop and open up to new commercial perspectives by diversifying and producing increasingly higher volumes - with ever-shorter deadlines. To accomplish these ends, it has become crucial to develop a veritable industrial dynamic tailored to its constraints. The aim of this article is first to develop and specify the context and particularities of the luxury industry, and second to offer a framework for analysing lean product development and maturity performance of an organization in the luxury industry.
