s / Digestive and Liver Disease 41S (2009), S1–S167 S123 suspected HCC nodule may minimize the risk of seeding, bad this has not been confirmed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of a new method for the diagnosis and treatment of nodules of HCC in one step in patients in follow-up for liver transplantation. Material and methods: This study included 24 consecutive patients [14 men, 10 women; median age: 62 years (range 45 to 79)] with 32 hepatic masses. These patients were sent to fine needle biopsy using a needle of 18G. After FNB on the lesion, PEI was begun using the same guide with a needle of 21G. Results: In total on 32 hepatic nodules sent to FNB, 21 were positive for HCC and 11 for hepatic metastatic lesions (6 from colorectal cancer, 3 from breast cancer, 1 from uterus and 1 from lung neoplasia). Besides, no recurrence of tumor in the needle track were observed after a 1 year of follow-up. The recurrence was reported only in 3 patients (9%), but not in the biopsy and PEI track. Conclusions: This new method based on fine-needle biopsy and percutaneous ethanol injection in one step appears to provide an additional advantage for the histological diagnosis and treatment of haepatic nodules. This is important in patients in follow-up for liver transplantation. # K. Pancreatic and liver oncology 6. HCC
