Effect of Fumed Silica on the Properties of Nylon-6

The surface of fumed silica was modified by a coupling agent,3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane.Nylon-6/fumed silica composites were successfully prepared through melt blending.The structure of the obtained composites was observed by transmission electronic microscope(TEM).The effects of different contents of fumed silica on the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites were investigated.The results showed that the tensile,flexural and impact strength and the heat deformation temperature of nylon-6 were improved obviously by adding a little amount of fumed silica.
