2018
Objective: To characterize the temporal evolution of new cases of leprosy according to the epidemiological and operational indicators in the municipality of Petrolina / PE, from 2005 to 2014. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive, temporal series study. We analyzed the new resident cases of Petrolina / PE, with secondary data coming from the Information System of Notifiable Diseases. For characterization, the sociodemographic, clinical, three epidemiological and two operational indicators of leprosy were selected. Calculated the absolute, relative frequencies and the rate of change. Results: A total of 2,219 new cases were reported, of which: female gender, age 15 and over, brown color / race, incomplete elementary schooling, paucibacillary operational classification and dimorphic clinical form predominated. In all three epidemiological indicators, rates of change increased. In the operational indicators, the rate of change in the proportion of contacts increased and in the proportion of the degree of physical disability evaluated in the reduced diagnosis. Conclusion: The indicators demonstrated the hyperendemicity of leprosy, the deficit in the quality of care in the health services and in the surveillance of the contacts in Petrolina / PE.
