An Outline of a Novel Strategy for Environmental Risk Assessment of Process Plants
1995
The paper outlines the current work on an Environmental Risk Assessment strategy for process industries. The strategy is demonstrated by considering a notional pulp mill modelled using the GEMS simulator package. Novel models are being built to account for all sources of pollution from the plant including regular process waste streams, fugitives and adventive losses. These outputs provide the source terms for various environmental impact scenarios to assess the exposure at a distant target. The exposure levels within the premises of plant could also be assessed by this method. The scope of the paper is limited to outlining the overall strategy.
