México retoma un liderazgo regulatorio sobre medicamentos biotecnológicos y biocomparables

espanolEn el contexto de la transicion epidemiologica que Mexico atraviesa actualmente, cobra mayor importancia el acceso adecuado a los denominados medicamentos biotecnologicos. Sin embargo, tambien representan para las autoridades sanitarias nuevos retos, ya que son productos mucho mas complejos, estructural y funcionalmente, que los quimicos convencionales. Ha sido necesario por ello actualizar el marco juridico mexicano, poniendo a Mexico en la vanguardia de este sector. Aqui se describe brevemente que son los medicamentos biotecnologicos, por que fue necesaria su regulacion diferenciada, cual ha sido la evolucion del marco regulatorio en Mexico y cuales son las caracteristicas generales del nuevo sistema. EnglishAmid the epidemiological transition that Mexico is currently experiencing, an adequate access to biotech medicines is becoming very important. However, these medicines also involve new challenges for the sanitary authorities, given their higher complexity in structure and function than conventional chemical drugs. Consequently, it has been necessary to update the Mexican legal framework, which has placed Mexico at the forefront in this sector. This article describes briefly what biotech drugs are, why it has been necessary to regulate them differently, the evolution of the regulatory framework in Mexico, and the general features of the new system.
