慢性阻塞性肺疾病病患服用吸入式類固醇或茶鹼的白內障,青光眼,黃斑部病變之風險:以台灣人口為基礎的回溯性巢式病例對照研究

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is an irreversible lung disease. The leading cause of death ranked seventh in Taiwan. According to COPD guideline when patient enter into the third stage. They recommend using inhaled corticosteroids to heal, theophylline is also recommended that patients taking one of the medicines. Theophylline occupies the highest proportion of drug use in Taiwan. The effect of theophylline on eyes doesn’t have clearly results yet. Cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration are all common eye diseases on elder. Cataract affects a lot of elder patients’ eyes and hurt a profound impact on their vision, however the published literature for inhaled corticosteroids using and the risk of cataracts is inconsistent until now. Glaucoma is the major culprit of cause blindness, and inhaled corticosteroids impacts on glaucoma in the current research is sparse and lacking large database research. Age-related macular degeneration is also a common eye disease in elder patients. Age-related macular degeneration will also cause blindness. This study is using retrospective nested case control to design. Searching the relation of eye diseases after using inhaled corticosteroids /theophylline with different drug combination among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.
