The zebrafish eye: developmental and genetic analysis.

The eye is a complex organ in which different tissues cooperate to form an optical image, to transduce the image into an array of neural messages, to analyze the messages, and to transmit them to the brain. All but the first of these functions occur in the retina, which is the main subject of this review.
