Política de drogas en México: opciones para la reforma

More than 50 years after the establishment of the international drug control regime, it is evident that Mexico’s prohibitionist strategy of the war on drugs has failed, this is due to the increase in homicidal violence, mass incarceration, erosion of rule of law and the criminalization of the most vulnerable populations. It is precisely for this reason that it is necessary to rethink the national strategy and open up the debate on the decriminalization of drugs, a new policy that allows us to deal with the phenomenon more effectively. In this way, this essay focuses on the central elements that must be taken into account in order to carry out a legislative reform in the matter.
