Magnetic Properties of RECO5‐Permanent Magnets

The magnetization and its anisotropy have been studied on SmCo 5 ‐ and CeMMCo 5 ‐permanent magnetic materials and SmCo 5 ‐ and SmCu 1.5 Co 3 ‐single crystals as a function of applied field. The dependence of the coercive force I H c (φ) on the angle φ between the applied field and the direction of easy magnetization yields information on the mechanism of the coercivity. A phenomenological model has been developed which allows the observed features to be described with one adjustable parameter, reproducing for I H c ≪ H A the Kondorsky‐ and for I H c ≈ H A the Stoner‐Wohlfarth‐behavior.
