Mohs micrographic surgery for periorbital skin cancer.

1989
With documentation of more than 600 cases of periorbital skin cancer, 315 of which penetrated to and beyond the orbital septum, the Mohs micrographic surgical technique proved to have a 5-year recurrence rate of less than 1%. This contrasts sharply with the standard technique of frozen section studies of the margins of periorbital skin cancer, which has a 5-year recurrence rate of 10%.
