Microscopic Image Classification Based on Descriptor Analysis

1997
Computer acquisition, storage and processing of microscopic images makes easier and more precise an objective comparison of various cell features in different experimental conditions. In most analysis systems (Soll & Wessels 1988, Diaspro et al. 1990), the image acquisition is performed with the use of a video camera joined to the frame grabber and computer. The images are collected in form of pixel tables. In most applications the useful information constitutes only a small part of the information the image contains as whole; therefore it is essential to elaborate a method of the computer image analysis which would make it possible to distinguish and to process especially significant cell features while neglecting the unimportant ones.
