Photosensitizing Effect of Two Extracts from Caulis Lonicerae:a Preliminary Study

Objective To find new effective photosensitizer form Chinese herbs.Methods High pressure xenon lamp was chosen as the light source.The photodynamic action on tumor cells of the two extractions from a Chinese herbal Caulis lonicerae was observed by using the transplant tumor model.Results The extractions named as 85221A60 and 85221A95 showed significant photodynamic action toward EAC tumor cells.This effect was related in quantity-effectiveness manner.The inhibition rate of 85221A95 toward the tumor weight of S180 was 63.6%(P0.05).Conclusion Chinese herbal is a treasure source of photosensitizers.New extractions from Chinese herbal which have photosensitivities are found.
