Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic inflammatory disease of connective tissue, mainly affecting the joints in the form of chronic progressing erosive-destructive polyarthritis, occurring with a variety of complications. The hand injury takes a special place in the clinical pattern of chronic diseases of joints. Surgical treatment is used in RA with the aim of conservation, restoration or improvement of the joints functioning. Depending on the stage of the disease and the process in the affected joint, different methods of rehabilitation-reconstructive surgery are applied. Given the high adaptive capacity of rheumatoid hand, even the severe deformations demand further research is needed to clarify the indications and contraindications to corrective operations.
