A New Decoupling Method for Massive MIMO Antennas

2018
A novel method for reducing mutual coupling in massive MIMO antennas is proposed. The decoupling is achieved by embedding two couples of metal meander line strips vertically and horizontally between two antenna elements, providing additional coupling paths to reduce the coupling between two input ports. The decoupling method is validated by simulating a 3 × 3 and a 4 × 4 dual-polarized antenna arrays. It is shown that the isolation is improved by 10 dB between the input ports of two adjacent antenna elements with the same polarization while there is little change for radiation patterns and the isolation between the input ports for two orthogonal polarizations.
