Plasmatron of H2-Rich Gas Generation From Ethanol

2008
As a flexible energy carrier that can be produced from biomass, hydrogen is one of the most promising substitutes for fossil fuels. A new technology that internal combustion engines supplies by hydrogen-rich gas substituting gasoline was developed in our groups. In this paper, a novel plasmatron made of bevel-gear-to-plane electrodes was designed and the performances of the bevel-gear-electrode and plate-electrode DBD discharge were studied comparatively. The result shows that the bevel-gear electrode discharge has the characteristics of high intension discharge and continuous discharge district. And it is proved that the bevel-gear-electrode discharge is more adapted to plasma chemistry reaction of liquid. Also experiment is presented for hydrogen-rich gas production by ethanol reforming using plasmatron, which the reforming rate is 30% and hydrogen concentration is 60%.
