Development of Eddy Current Detector for Welds in Strip

2001
Abstract The accurate detection of welds is important because the joints between preceding and following strips need to be traced in the thin steel sheet production line. The common method for detecting welds uses photo sensors to detect holes punctad near the welds. However with this method, the punched holes can cause the strip to break because the strength of strip is weakened To cope with this problem, NKK adopted an eddy current sensor and has developed the new detector which can detect even the thrnrer weld points after cold rolling.
